Pune to Murud (Harnai), Recommended route to take, Via Bhor Ghat or via Tamhini Ghat?

Recently, in the month of Oct 22, we travelled to Murud (Harnai). Since I already have a dedicated post on a trip to Murud (Harnai), I will omit those details and only talk about route review. Read about Murud and Harnai beach in this blog - https://harshad-datar.blogspot.com/2015/10/my-mumbai-murud-harnai-trip-part-3.html

When we looked at Google Maps, the route suggested was via Bhor Ghat or via Tamhini Ghat. The route via Bhor is, Pune - Satara road till Kapurhol, then take the road to Bhor - Mahad - Dapoli and then to Murud. The second route is via Tamhini is Pune - Tamhini - Bhagad and then on to Dapoli - Murud. The second route was relatively slower (as per the map).

We had in the past travelled through both routes to Kokan. Bhor Ghat route was damaged more than Tamhini during Cyclone Taukate which came in the month of May 21.

Despite our not-so-good experience with Tamihni and Bhor ghat, more so with Bhor Ghat, we decided to be optimists and made our Pune Murud (Harnai) trip in the month of Oct 22 through Bhor and enjoyed the beauty of the scenic route having two dams and their lakes, namely Bhatghar near Bhor and Nira Devghar.

The natural beauty of this route is superb. The route is picturesque, and everything today is in its favour. The road surface, which was very bad during our last trip has been repaired except for a stretch of less than a Kilometer.

And the verdict is, to safely take the Bhor Ghat route to get down in Kokan from Pune, at least till next Monsoon as this route is shorter, more picturesque and avoids travel through Goa Highway (you just cross it once through an Underpass).

All the three routes taking one from Pune to Murud are shown in the map below. The recommended route is in the Blue.

Happy motoring everyone.
