Day 3 30 Oct 2016
Umiam (Bara Pani) Lake
This day our first task was to wait for our children to come
from Mumbai by 1130 via the same route, Mumbai
Kol Guwahati flight. On their
arrival we picked them up and left for Umiam (Barapani) lake. This lake is a
man-made lake created by Assam Electricity Board by building a dam across a stream around the year 1960 to
make a storage run hydro power station.

We reached the lake by 1430n hrs. On first sight itself, the
lake looked majestic and beautiful. It is a big lake and it is mesmerizing too.
After taking entry tickets we went inside to the lake. As usual, first activity
was photography. Also we enquired about
boating but the very short time for boating disappointed us.
For power
boat, the trip was 10 min and for speed boat and water scooter it was just five
minutes. Thus we dropped the idea of boat ride. I wish the ride was at least 20
min or more. That did not deter us from spending adequate time to soak in the
beauty of the lake.

Post lake visit we checked-in in Orchid Lake Resort, a
Meghalaya Tourism property and the only one that is on the lake shore. They
honoured the booking as that was done a month ago but they were not taking new
booking as the fact is, at the moment their 70% rooms are under renovation. The
rooms were good and so was the food. Service was good but little slow (govt
property). By then it was dark (NE area) so it was only enjoying in the room
and then dinner.
Next day morning first we enjoyed the garden of the Resort.
